KNIGHTHOOD FOR THE REV. JOHN DAVIES MEREWEATHER 1886 |
---|
We learn from the "Venice Gazette" of the 2nd of January, that the Rev. John Davies Mereweather, English chaplain in Venice, has had the distinction of Knight of the Order of the Crown of Italy conferred upon him by the king, upon the recommendation of Count Robilant, the minister of foreign affairs.
Mr. Mereweather's English friends will rejoice to hear that his services have met with such an honourable recognition.
At the time of the disastrous floods Mr. Mereweather particularly distinguished himself, and we are not surprised that the "Venice Gazette" congratulates the rev. gentleman upon his well-merited and honourable distinction.
